Stevens Greenland Cemetery

Stevens Greenland Cemetery is a historic African American burial ground established in 1906 on South Duke Street in Lancaster. Originally created because segregation denied African Americans equal access to cemeteries, it became the final resting place for community leaders and at least 47 African American veterans who served in every major U.S. conflict from the Civil War through Vietnam.

In the spring of 2021, AAHSSCPA members joined with the Lancaster community to help clean and care for Stevens Greenland Cemetery. Since then, AAHSSCPA members have continued to participate in annual cleanup efforts, honoring those interred and supporting the ongoing preservation of this historic African American burial ground.
