About the event
Join us for an engaging AAHSSCPA Membership Meeting featuring Peggy Eppig, Conservation Educator with the Lancaster Conservancy, as she presents on the environmental history of the Gullah/Geechee communities of the Carolinas. This program will explore how land, water, and environment have shaped the cultural traditions, resilience, and identity of the Gullah/Geechee people.
Through this unique lens, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the ways African American communities have interacted with, preserved, and been impacted by their natural surroundings—offering insight into both historical and contemporary connections between environment, heritage, and community. This presentation invites reflection on the importance of conservation, cultural preservation, and the enduring relationship between people and place.
