MISSION STATEMENT

​

The mission of the African-American Historical Society of South Central Pennsylvania is to collect, analyze, interpret, and preserve essential facts and materials related to the life of African Americans in historic and contemporary communities in South Central Pennsylvania and adjoining areas. Important to that mission is to explore connections with other ethnic and racial communities in South Central Pennsylvania and adjoining areas. To that end the Society will sponsor Exhibits, Lectures, Tours, Workshops, and Educational Projects. These programs and projects will examine and interpret personalities, events, and trends found in communities in South Central Pennsylvania. This is to include group interaction, community building, social conflict, world of work, and migration. The society will educate the public by promoting the history and accomplishments of African Americans.

ABOUT US

The Society was organized in 2005 as an affiliate of the Crispus Attucks Center of Lancaster, with the mission to collect, analyze, and interpret basic information about the life of African Americans in the South Central region of the Commonwealth.

The Society now operates independently.

MONTHLY MEETINGS

African American Historical Society of South Central PA monthly meetings are held the 3rd Sunday of every month, from 3:00 pm -4:00 pm at the Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology Orange Street Campus
