About the event
We’ll travel together through Lancaster and York counties, visiting burial grounds that preserve the stories of African American families, churches, communities, and individuals whose lives helped shape our region.
Along the way, local historians and researchers will introduce participants to the people buried in these sacred spaces, explore the communities that surrounded them, and share stories that too often remain outside the pages of traditional history.
Our journey includes Lincoln Cemetery in Mount Joy; Wesley AME Zion Church Cemetery/Upper African Cemetery and Bethel AME Church in Marietta; Mt. Bethel and Zion Hill cemeteries in Columbia; and Mount Pisgah Cemetery in Wrightsville.
Soul Stroll is more than a cemetery tour. It is an opportunity to walk among our ancestors, discover the history written in stone, and better understand the Black communities that lived, worshiped, worked, struggled, and built lives throughout South Central Pennsylvania.
